The children at both campuses thoroughly enjoyed taking centre stage at the NAIDOC Whole School Assembly at Hornsby. The students worked hard to ensure they were ready for their performance and were honoured to be asked by Mr Heath to do the Acknowledgement in Wonnarua Language.
At Darkinjung, the students have been learning a little bit about the science of character strengths and how knowing your own can positively affect your life. Students wore their superhero capes as they flew about the classroom and sprinkled some positive magic to their peers by identifying the strengths they see in each other. Students then added these to their self-identified strengths in creating their alter-ego superhero to be displayed in the classroom.
The recent Open Day at Darkinjung was a great success, it was lovely to show off the School to new families and share the amazing setting and what they do with the community.
At Ngarralingayil Barker, PDHPE lessons have been a golden highlight. In PDHPE the Panyal students have been learning about the body systems. Students learnt about our skeletal system, how it is the scaffolding that holds our body up, and how our different joints can move depending on what we ask our body to do. They completed the lesson by puzzling together a life-sized skeleton while identifying and naming each of the bones. In PE, students played some Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander games including their favourite fishing game. It was terrific to see all of the students displaying incredible sportsmanship, having a go and thoroughly enjoying themselves.
Ngarralingayil had a lovely visit from six Year 10 Hornsby students who assisted with our groups before joining headed into town together to visit the museum. Wow! The children were amazing and completed the treasure hunt to find many different artefacts that had been donated by local families. The students found the school bell from the old Wollombi Public School and delighted the locals with giving it a few chimes before they left.
